With a 1998 Vortec engine, you can get about a 20 hp increase simply by streamlining the intake and exhaust, with no other modifications. Use a K&N or similar intake tube with a low-restriction filter and dual 2.5 inch exhaust with Flowmaster or similar low-restriction mufflers. An additional 10-20 hp can be gained with very little expense by adding an insert inside the intake tube that "spirals" the air. "Vortec" or "Cyclone" are two brands that manufacture these inserts. Putting a similar insert in the exhaust just behind the mufflers will help too, although the exhaust ones are harder to find. An interesting side note is that every one of these modifications also increase fuel economy. Large horsepower gains can be experienced with more in-depth mods like upgrading the camshaft (open valves higher and longer), heads (compression, valve size) and using forced induction (just another way of getting more air into the combustion chamber). All of these require computer reprogramming or upgraded chips, and fuel economy will not always increase, and may decrease.
Probably about 240 or close. Move to a 96 and it's a lot more. The Vortec started in 96 with the 350 (5.7) and 454 (7.4). I understand the Vortec 5.7 had a little more power than the non-Vortec 7.4, and the Vortec 5.7 has 250 horsepower.
A general rule is the bigger the engine, the more horsepower.
a throttle body spacer will help some, as will certain types of exhaust but a performance chip is the biggest thing you can do to improve horsepower
Horsepower is not dependant on engine size, but on engine efficiency and RPM, more information is needed to answer this question.
The oil filter is located on the driver's side of the engine right next to the oil pan. Read more in the link below: Changing Oil in a 4.3L Vortec
If you attempt to put a vortec engine into a vehicle with a NON-vortec computer, you'll have more problems than you care to deal with.
In short the answer is Digital Horsepower Search at regalgs.net or clubgp.com Both sites have a wealth of information on uprating the gm 3.8l engine. The engines can easily be upgraded mild power with more serious amounts with hardware upgrades.
if you can find the hp. of the eng., you can add between 12-20 more hp. for the headers.
the horsepower is rated @130 by the factory not 110 the ztec is more powerful than a spi in the sedan/wagon a 1998 ford escort zx2 has 110 horsepower
allows more air into the engine and engine compartment. this allows for potentially more horsepower.
more horsepower on the magnum
Depends on the engine that is turning 1,000 rpm's. A larger engine develops way more horsepower than a small engine at 1,000 rpm's.
