With a pitman arm puller.
According to my internet research, to change the pitman and idler arm on a Chevy truck, one must remove the two bolts holding the idler arm as well as the nut holding it to the truck. Then to remove the pitman arm, remove the nut and the drag link.
first loosen the nut on the pitman arm then separate the pitman arm from the gearbox using a pitman arm puller.then remove three or four bolts from gearbox to vehicle frame, that's it!
connected to the bottom of the steering box
The Pitman arm is attached to the power steering pump, which is connected to your steering shaft, which is the long rod looking thing to the right of the engine, the idler arm is to the left of the pitman arm attached to the fram, it basically looks like a strip of metal bolted to the fram that is connected to your shaft that is also connced to the pitman arm
On that year you will have to remove the gear box before you can pull the pitman arm off with a puller.
there is an "idler arm", its part of the steering and runs horizontal, as well as a pitman arm
check your pitman arm and idle arm
Bring it to the garage. it is a pain. you have to remove the power steering pump
A pitman arm on any American built automobile is not adjustable to my knowledge. Give us more info as to year, make and model.
Hey, you need to buy or rent a pitman arm puller. lock the steering wheel on center, remove pitman arm nut, then use the puller to release the pitman arm from the steering gearbox. make sure not to turn the steering wheel while unhooked from the pitman arm or you will damage the airbag clock spring in the steering wheel. good luck and be carfull ps, you may have to tighten the puller then tap the head of the screw on the puller then tighten then tap ect.
