A broken timing belt on a 6 cylinder Camry will not harm the engine but it will stop it completely. Timing belts should be changed every 80,000 miles as preventive maintenance.
Well, friend, a broken timing belt on a Volkswagen Jetta can indeed cause damage to the engine. The timing belt is crucial for the engine to run smoothly, so if it breaks, it can lead to the engine's valves and pistons not working together correctly, potentially causing significant harm. It's important to address this issue promptly to prevent further damage and get your Jetta back on the road to happy little adventures.
''no ,it is an interference engine'' Wrong! Not even one mx-3 with 1.8 v6 engine have an interference engine! Your belt may slip or even split in half, no harm will be done to engine- valves will not be bent. Checked on my own experience 2x. If the timing belt slips, you may not be able to start you car , or it may work like machine gun(firing sounds)- very rough idle, not able to pick up speed e.t.c (depends on how many ''teeth'' of timing belt have slipped).
It means that a fully open valve in the engine occupies the same space as a piston at the top of its travel. Of course under normal conditions this never happens at the same time. When a timing belt breaks the valves freeze at whatever position they are at the moment of the belt failure. As the rest of the engine coasts to a stop if a valve is fully open it will be contacted by the piston and do great amounts of harm. In a non-interference engine the two moving parts have no potential to contact each other. When a timing belt breaks the engine can be repaired by replacing the timing belt and retiming the engine. Don't take the chance. Replace the belt and water pump when the manual says to. The belt could break just as you are trying to beat that semi...
Yes If you know that it is broke don't attempt to start it or you cause more harm if harm isn't already caused
The procedure is far too complicated and detailed to list here. And, if you make a mistake you can do harm to the engine. I suggest you take it to a professional or if you insist on DIY then purchase a Hayne's repair manual for your vehicle.
YES. It will not harm the engine are running condition.
i'd suggest checking on www.tdiclub.com - it's a very helpful site.Golf tdi is an interference engine you will have some bent valves.
can we keep broken laughing buddha
1.8 vvti engines don't have timing belts but chains instead, these I believe need changing at 100k miles. ANSWER #2:: I have heard to the contrary on the replacement of the chain in that it is, essentially, good for the lifetime of the engine.. but that's just what I have "heard". You would have to check Toyota specs to be sure (any dealer service center will have that info). However, by replacing it at 100k miles, you certainly couldn't be doing any harm.
It will not harm the engine but the engine will no longer run properly and will pollute. It is illegal to remove the converter from any vehicle.
According to the owners manual. Check the motor hood, there might be a recommendation there, or a note from a previous replacement. Generally timing belts replacements are in the range from 30000 to 100000 kilometers, you will not do any harm if replacing sooner, especially if the car was not used for a long time. (for engines with external timing belts)
