Yes.. When you accelerate/speed the engine up, the timing should always start advanceing and then retard as engine speed starts down. That is what the knock sensor does, Retards the timing. The sensor itself may be shorted are grounded. That could very well be your problem. You got to start somewhere.
Don't forget to CHECK your fuel filter.... And fuel pressure... This can cause your problem too. It would be rear helpfull for US to answer your question BETTER If we new the year and engine size and what your working on would be nice. Thank you for asking.
Knock sensor = CKP sensor on this vehicle.
That year vehicle has a carburetor and does not use a knock sensor.
Yes, you should always run your vehicle with its Knock sensor.
The knock sensor has no effect on idle. It has no effect at all unless it is triggered by detonation. It is a passive device.
The knock sensor is a passive device that has no effect on engine idle.
Ping under acceleration or under load.
The knock sensor on that vehicle is located under the intake manifold. The intake manifold must be removed to gain access to the knock sensor.
That depends on which vehicle. Some have more than one.
if a knock gos bad can your car go off
You shouldn't have to - the knock sensor is supposed to adjust the timing automatically. If the vehicle is mistimed, you might need to replace the knock sensor.
LS does not have a knock sensor. GSR does have a knock sensor
That depends on the year of the vehicle. The newer 350's have a "knock sensor" that's supposed to sense fuel pre-ignition and briefly retard the timing during periods of heavy acceleration. If THAT'S what's wrong, just replace the knock sensor.
