You may have acquired some inferior brake pads. Check to see if ceramic pads are available (more expensive) but worth it for your vehicle and re-surface the rotors if possible. The rear shoes might have gotten soiled with contaminates from a leaky brake cylinder at one time assure they are dry or replace if necessary. If you have 4 wheel drive, pull off the wheel where you hear the grinding and check the to see if the FWD hub has broken parts inside (gear, ring, spring, etc.). I had the same problem on my Ford Ranger. Changed the hub and the noise went away!
