Why would your 1994 F150 pickup make a grinding noise when you step on the brakes if you have checked the pads shoes and rotors and found nothing rubbing?
You may have acquired some inferior brake pads. Check to see if ceramic pads are available (more expensive) but worth it for your vehicle and re-surface the rotors if possible. The rear shoes might have gotten soiled with contaminates from a leaky brake cylinder at one time assure they are dry or replace if necessary. If you have 4 wheel drive, pull off the wheel where you hear the grinding and check the to see if the FWD hub has broken parts inside (gear, ring, spring, etc.). I had the same problem on my Ford Ranger. Changed the hub and the noise went away!
