Try spraying some lubricant in the latch mechanism. It worked for mine. I had the same problem on a 97 model. I bought and replaced one switch and within 2 weeks another acted up. I completely doused the latch mechanism with WD-40 first to remove any grime then followed up with silicone spray. That was 5 years ago and not a problem since. I still give it a shot for good measure once in a while when I give it a good wash and wax. your problem is door switch, which is located in side the door by the latch. You have t take out the door panel toaccess the switch. After you have taken out the door switch you have to look through the opening of the door panel and you will see a little switch about 2 inches long with two wires to it. They are usually colored. You have to twist this switch in order to take it out. It is a little difficult since the area is small. After you have taken it out take it to the dealer. Be precise on which side you need it because each side has a different part and they will not fit right on opposite ends. You have to twist it back into place and then replace the door panel and your good to go.
It stays on
Does it stay on forever? Or does it eventually go out? FriPilot
To the right of the headlight switch is a gauge light dimmer wheel , if that has been rotated all the way up , your courtesy lights will stay on with the doors closed. If you also have a door ajar light lit up in your gauge cluster , then you may have a sticking door ajar switch , or something isn't closed properly
Either the manual light switch is on or the door switch is damaged.
If your interior light is also on, replace the door switch.
If you are referring to the can light, there is a manual switch on the light that allows it to operate when the doors is closed or to automatically turn on when the door is open and then shut off when the door is closed. If the switch is in this position and the light is staying on, the switch in the door to tell it to turn off is probably not working. Yes
check for a bad door switch.
The back hatch may be ajar.
Either one of the door switches is broken or the dome light switch on the dash is turned on.
The switches for the dome light on each door of a 2004 Olds Alero are at the front of the door. They are on the door frame where the door meets the frame when it is closed. If the dome light is staying on, try checking the dome light control by the headlight switch, also. It may have gotten bumped when entering the vehicle.
Fix a "door ajar" on Chevy Impala 2003 . Still on doors closed.
