very common problem with these are the fuel pump, when i was a machanic i was replacing at least one a week on the s-10 blazers.

It sounds funny, but on the 1997 Blazer there are defects. I have one and unfortunately I have had to remove the cover under the steering wheel so I can pull or move the wires on the right hand side. You will know you have it right when the key is switched on, and you have dash lights. 97 Blazer will crank and crank, but rarely start. I sat for 1 1/2 hours one day. This is a faulty ignition switch, that needs replaced. If you go to the ntha complaint site you will se there are many 1997 Blazers with this same type of problem and others... Good Luck

Check your fuel pressure.
1.Turn ignition on do not try to turn the engine over.
2.under the hood find the purge valve for the fuel line. (indicated by a green cap)
3. press the valve in and see if it sprays out fuel. If this occurs its not your fuel pump. If no fuel sprays, there is your problem.

From what I've experienced, up to 1995, they don't have a crank sensor and 1996 and later has one. It would reason that it would be a lot of work to get a crank fitted or cut and then install a timing chain cover to accept the crank sensor. Other than this. I would think it would work.
