i have a 2003 ranger with a 3.0 L i tried to do the same thing the clips do not come off you have to push and pull them every body told me pry them off so i did and broke both fuel lines costing me 200 dollars to replace them i hope this helps you

it requires a slide tool to push u clip out. most parts store have tool
It is the tiny valve that lets air in to your tire but not out (unless you push it in with a nail or similar "pointy" thing)

When You Push The Clutch In Make Sure Its To The Floor
Because you have to have the clutch depressed to start it. They came factory with a clutch safety switch that will not allow the engine to start unless the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor . NOT. the clutch safety switch only allows the starter to be energized... If the glow plugs will cycle then the truck can be pulled to start. When my starter solenoid was bad I pulled it to start.
