One word for you...Brakes.....
there is no timing belt. it is a timing chain and doesn't need replacement unless it is damaged.
Most likely the power steering belt is old and should be replaced.
would the fan belt on a v8 motor cause squeaking
It's one of your belt driven accessories-that's a starting point.
MOST LIKELY THE COOLING FAN FOR THE VEHICLE, COMMON WITH CAVALIERS. NEEDS TO BE OILED IF YOU WANT THE SQUEEKING TO GO AWAY.
Belt is loose and slipping
Before you remove the old one, make a sketch of how it is routed. The diagram is located on the hood above the belt.
belt slipping?
Mine isn't squeaking. Yours is because your pulleys aren't aligned or because you are using an improper belt.
Suspension squeaking in a Cavalier can be from suspension parts rubbing together. Check to insure that all of the bushings in the suspension are intact.
If the sound occurs only when turning, (left or right) the most likely cause is a loose power steering belt. First check to see if the belt is tensioned correctly, or in need of replacement.
