Trust me you don't even want to get in to this .... The ventures flaw is that the wiring for the fuel pump sucks it all comes back to a terminal used which is found behind the driver seat under the rug. It rots out and you lose all connections needed to make the fuel pump work. The gauge is the purple wire also known as the sending unit.
------------ edit -----------
The above may be true in areas where road salts and corrosion are common, but another common failure point is the fuel level sensor, which is located in the fuel tank itself. ALL of the GM vehicles from around 1999-2002 have had issues with these sensors. Unfortunately, the replace the sensor, the fuel tank has to be drained and dropped.
My fuel gauge, odometer and radiator gauge isn't working and my radio says locked. How can I fix this?
If the gas gauge stops working is there a fuse for it?
sticking float on the fuel pump, or malfunction in the float
check ground first
Either the thermostat is not working properly or the temperature sensor is displaying wrong on your gauge.
Head gaskets!!
bad temp sender usually. Bad gauge rarely.
Hi, There can be a few different causes of this, such as blocked airways through the radiator, stuck thermostat, low coolant levels, cooling fans not working properly, that kind of thing. There can also be other "bad" reasons for the gauge to rise, such as a blown head gasket. In any case, you should have it checked out so that this possible "minor problem" does not turn into a Major issue. Good Luck, Greg
have you checked the fuel gauge itself to make sure it is working
Oil pressure test.
I have a 1999 s-10 my fuel gauge quit working I had to replace my fuel pump that fixed my proplem
recharge gauge shows pressure of 70 psi
