im in the process of buying a truck the same year with the same problem...from what i understand you need a vacuum diagram, because on the trucks(even with the 4x4shifter) the transfer case is still vacuum actuated...and vacuum lines crack and pop off. dig around for a diagram and see if im right about the problem...i hope i am, otherwise ill have to go through Maine weather with no 4x4 too...post what you find

from 89 through 1996 the rims have the same bolt circle and from 1997-2003 and 2004-2011. However, if the tires are larger than stock on the 4x4 you will probly have clearance issues on the 2x4.

As long as the numbers match on side of trans the only problems you will have is the vss was moved to the rear diff in 1998 so the 1997 would need an entire wire over but if the f150 is. 4x4 then the speed sensor is in the transfer case which means your fine
remove wheels.remove brake calipers, remove 4x4 locking hub.with special socket remove axle locking nut. brake rotor will the slide off enabling you to change bearings
