Unless you are skilled in working with engines, I would advise you to bring it to a mechanic. If you are, get either a Hayes or Toyota manuel and go step by step to taking apart your engine. The knock sensor is in the exact middle of the engine.
Timeing, under octained gas, Or it could just be american.
Not unless it is a carburated engine.
The knocking noise is commonly called spark knock. The knock can be called by the engine timing not being set correctly, or using gas that has too low of an octane for the engine.
how to replace a knock sensor on a 2000 Chevy 6.0 step by step
It sure does . Almost like a rod knock . But with a crack flex plate if you press and hold the brake pedel and step on the gas pedel just a little the noise goes away .. With a rod knock the noise gets louder and faster as you step on the gas..
a knock sensor will retard or advance ignition spark, improving gas mileage and will not shorten engine life , if any thing it will extend engine life.
The knock sensor just advances and retards the engine timing only. If there is a noise in the engine then you have engine are valve train problems. The knock sensor will not make the engine knock.
This is controlled by a knock sensor.
it depends on what engine you have but most of them are a 5.4 or 4.6 or 4.2 and those have the knock sensors under the intake manifold on the passenger side.
I have a recent engine knock on my 91 escort started out intermittant. I have a recent engine knock on my 91 escort started out intermittant.
When engine starts to ping there can be damage internally in the engine. The knock sensor determines that the engine is pinging internally, due to certain vibrations it picks up. It relays this information to the onboard computer. The computer then changes the fuel timing to the injectors, sometimes cutting it in half, so the damage is slowed and giving you time to repair the problem. That is a simplified version af a process. What you feel is a lack of power when you step on the gas. Some loss of gas mileage depending on your load.
