Why does your 89 Pontiac Firebird sound like a jet engine when driving but not when idle Do you think you have a bad wheel bearing?
A bad wheel bearing does not sound like a jet engine. It is more of a grinding noise. If you only hear this during acceleration, I would suspect your breather intake is loose or disconnected. Unload the bearings by swerving right and left. If the noise disappears then you may indeed have a bad bearing. In other words if you swerve right and the noise disappears, suspect a bad right wheel bearing, etc.
