The 2 reasons I've experienced for this are:
Not enough coolant in radiator
Thermostat not working correctly (most common), also don't think that the car not overheating means thermostat is ok, on this model there is a bypass built into thermostat, if anything the engine will run below normal temp, BTW a great idea WTG Pontiac !
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. It should be in the metal housing the hose is clamped to.
how do i replace a water hose in 1993 pontiac grand am
Where are the vacuum hose located at on '97 Pontiac grand am? Where are the vacuum hose located at on '97 Pontiac grand am?
The thermostat is located near the intake on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT. The thermostat can be located by following the upper radiator hose directly to the thermostat.
Look where the upper radiator hose enters the block. It's under there.
Under the throttle body on the driver side. Follow the upper hose to the block.
Located in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
The thermostat on a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4 liter 4 cylinder is located on the side of the engine. It can be found by following the upper radiator hose.
At the point where the upper radiator hose clamps to the engine is the thermostat housing. Inside is the thermostat.
follow the upper radiator hose toward the engine block you should see the t stat housing remove hose at neck then upper bolt on housing then loosen bottom bolt
if you have a 3.3l v6, then you follow the upper radiator hose to where it connects to the block. It's around the throttle. The place where the hose connects can be removed, and the thermostat is in there.
Inside the thermostat housing, follow the upper rad hose back to the engine, under the throttle body.
