overfilling can cause high pressure inside the transmission valve body and can accually damage the solenoids that control shifting. if the solenoids have gotten weak, they can cause the transmission to hold shifts longer then it should, or not shift at all. try changing the Transmission Fluid completely. there is a 15mm drain plug on the bottom of the transmission. the transmission holds 3.75 quarts with a new filter. if this does not solve your problem, you may have to replace your solenoids, which can get quite costly.
The transmission shift solenoid on a 2000 Saturn 2L is located inside the transmission. It is typically located on the valve body, which is inside the transmission case. To access and replace the shift solenoid, the transmission will likely need to be partially disassembled.
Gear shift linkage?Remove gear shift from top and align
Check the shift cableS, and the shift bushings. Broken cables or worn bushings can result in shifting problems.Good luck, and hope that it isn't a transmission problem.
A more accurate description of the problem along with if its an automatic or manual transmission is needed.
If this is a manual shift transmission, the arrow means it is time to shift up a gear. This is there to help you get the best gas mileage.

if its a manual transmission its your pressure plate if its an automatic it could be the disc attached to your flywheel
On a 1999 Saturn vehicle, the backup light switch is located on top of the shift housing, which is situated on the top of the transmission. This switch requires a 7/8' wrench for removal.
there is no fuse that makes the transmission shift the transmission shifts on cylinoids and rpms
It could be the pressure control solenoid inside your transmission. Try replacing the transmission fluid and filter first to see if that resolves your issue.
The Neutral safety switch is located on the back of the automatic transmission. it is quite simple to replace. It is probably easier to replace from under the vehicle, but it is accessable from the top if your vehicle is not equipped with ABS.
the reverse safety back up switch is located on top of the transmission next to the clutch resivior
