A common problem is that the blend door actuator or the blend door itself will break.

The blend door actuator is just a small motor that opens a vent to allow the warm air to flow, it is cheap and fairly easy to replace with a radio removal tool. A professional could do the repair in less than 15 minutes.

See "Related Questions" below for more information on the actuator motor repairs many others have done.

However, on my 1999 Ford Windstar, the blend door itself broke. This repair is more costly and more difficult, perhaps $700 to $1000 to replace. I just tied a shoestring to my blend door.

When you insert the blend door actuator if there is no slot for it the door is broken and you are up sh... creak. Hope it is the former.

Another option is from a company called HeaterTreater - a method to repair a broken blend door without removing the dash. I haven't tried it, but the ideas behind it seem to make sense - and they have lots of videos showing the processes.

Where would the flap be at for the heater on a 2000 windstar?

This "flap" is the temperature blend door which directs air over & through the heater core. The "Related Questions" below are intended to help explain some of the basics of Windstar heating/cooling functions and terminology. That should help in the investigation of the specific problem on the vehicle, and ultimately leading to a fix.Start with the "Where is the heater control valve located on a Ford Windstar" question and then move on to the "What could cause a Windstar to have no heat - or not be able to adjust the temperature"

How do you change a blend door actuator on a 2000 ford windstar van?

Before replacing the thermostat or any other component of the Windstar's HVAC system, be sure to check your blend door for functionality FIRST. The most common issue with heat or A/C in the late model Ford windstar is a broken blend door. A broken blend door actuator is almost as common as a broken blend door itself. Typically, the fix requires disassembling the entire dash and replacing the whole plenum box, which can be a costly repair.

Can heat cause 96 Ford Windstar 3.8 coil pack problems?

Yes, but it would have to be defective already (which, at 12 years old, fits).

Why is my new heater core not putting out heat on a 2000 windstar sel?

There is a common problem with the Windstar: the small motor that controls the temperature blend door fails - leaving you no control over how much/little heat is being delivered to the cabin. See "Related Questions" below for more

Why is your 2000 ford windstar not blowing hot air in the front or the back?

Because there is no heat in either front or back, I would suspect the engine thermostat first. If it never opens, the coolant is essentially prevented from getting to the heater cores. See "Related Questions" below for more

Brakes on ford windstar overheating and not working properly?

#1 suspect is the rotors.Cheap rotors do not dissipate the extreme heat very well.Do a front brake job, and upgrade to a better grade of rotor, and consider a better designed rotor - more $$'s but have engineered to be great at dealing the the high-heat conditions.See "Related Questions" below for more

How do you replace the bulbs behind the radio and heat controls on a 2000 Windstar SE?

The bulbs can be replaced for the radio and heater controls on a 2000 Windstar SE by removing the plate over the heater controls. Some models need an Allen wrench for this and some models will need a Star wrench to remove the screws holding this plate on.
