the best thing is to put it in neutral and get stopped as quickly as possible and shut it off. if you shut it off right away you will lose your power steering and some braking action.
no pressure, fluid drains back in.
Put the vehicle in neutral and shut it off. ---------- Make absolutely certain when you shut the car off that you don't rotate the key back too far or you will lock the steering wheel and be unable to steer the car. Just turn the key far enough to shut off the engine. If it can handle the accessories (A/C, Defrost) it will shut off. Also the power steering strains the engine, does it shut off when you turn the wheel all the way? If so check for a vacuum leak.
