Where is the transaxle on a Ford Windstar?

The term "transaxle" can mean different things to different people. Here's a couple that I've run across:

• Referring to the transmission itself - not surprisingly, it mounts to the "backside" of the engine, taking up the right side half of the engine compartment - down under the air intake ductwork
  
  
• Referring to the axle assembly - also known as a "half-axle" (cause it drives only 1/2 of the drive wheels). This is an assembly of rods and things called constant velocity "CV" joints and is how the power from the engine transfers to moving the wheels.
  
  The transaxles connect from the backside center of the transmission out to the center hub of each front wheel.
