where the top radiator hose meets the engine there is a small housing, the thermostats inside. The brass screw on top of this housing is where you bleed the air from the cooling system after replacing it and refilling the system. Be sure not to overtighten it after you screw it back together or you can snap the top off of it (brass is soft)

A 3.8 of the same series from any GM Division. 3.4 do not share the same bolt pattern. 3.5 Intrigue engines are only in certain Intrigues and Auroras, and do not share the bolt battern with 3.8s. But this comes from someone who has put a 455 Toro in the rear of an S10, and a W-41 in a Fiero. Anything goes in anything if you are creative. :)

How do you replace the thermostat in a 1999 Oldsmobile intrigue?
1. Thermostat on the 3.5 Liter V6 is located on the right front of the engine just above the alternator. 2. Disconnect 2 small hoses and radiator hose from the thermostat housing. 3. Remove the 2 10mm bolts that fasten the thermostat housing to the engine block. 4. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block. 5. The new thermostat comes installed in a new housing and is usually a dealer only stocked item. 6. Install new thermostat and housing unit and fasten with 2 10mm bolts. Do not over torque! 7. Re-install hoses. 8. Top up coolant, start up the engine and check for leaks. 9. Let engine reach operating temperature. 10. When engine has cooled sufficiently, recheck coolant level.
