I have a 94 buick century the speedometer doesn't work n it has a hard time shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear it makes a funky noise. would like to find out what I can do Sounds to me the speed sensor is at fault.
It does not have a speedometer gear. The speedometer is electronic and gets its signal from the ABS and transmission computers from the wheel speed and transmission speed sensors. It does not have a speedometer gear. At the top the speedometer cable is connected to a little gear in the speedometer guage, and on the bottom end it is connected to a little gear in the car's transmission.
The drive gear is in the tail shaft of the transmission. The driven gear is on the end of the speedometer cable housing.
If it's old enough to have a mechanical speedometer, it'll be in the speedometer itself. If it has an electronic speedometer, there is no speedometer gear - to recalibrate the speedometer to match something like, say, changing tire size would require changing the parameters in the engine ECM.
broken cable? Broken gear at transmission end? Broken gear at speedometer head?
did you check the speedometer gear in the tranny?
the bulb goes out in the gear and mileage display, and its no problem i went to the junk yard and thourgh on right in mine and it works great
speedometer gear
There is no speedometer cable, it is electronic.
My speedometer works and the odometer does not because there is a plastic gear in the odometer that is broken.
possibly a broken internal gear in the speedometer head
