There are several things that can cause your 1998 Mercury Villager rear fan to stop working. The most common cause is a disconnected or corroded ground wire.
Under the dash, at the extreme right near the passenger kick panel.
The Villager has an electric fan and does not use a "fan belt".
Under the dash.
Has anyone been able to solve this problem? I have the same problem with my 2002 Mercury Villager. Please reply if you have had this issue. My email address is pkelly@pkaconsulting.com.
I had this issue over the winter....had a mechanic tell I needed to take the blower fan out and clean it. Apparently some mice built themselves a home in my fan. The smell is likely the fan burning up because it is trying too hard to work.
In the relay box in the engine compartment with the other relays.
The blower motor fan cools the resistor so the resistor is usually located close to the blower.
There are numerous fan ducts in this vehicle, under the dash, under the carpet, and in the roof and side panels.
Possibly resistor pack on blower motor needs replacing
