The orange wire is hot (positive) and the black is ground.
To replace the battery in most years of Chevrolet Celebrity: Use a 15 mm wrench to remove the two bolts in the brace just above the battery and move the brace out of the way. The ignition switch should be off as well as all lights etc. Use gloves to protect your self from the acid in the battery. Remove the battery hold down at the front base of the battery. Remove the ground wire from the battery being very careful not to short the wrench out on the positive cable. You may have to reposition the battery to get to the ground wire terminal. Remove the positive cable and lift the old battery clear of the car. Reverse the removal process to install the replacement battery. The ground wire should be attached after the positive cable has been replaced. Be careful not to short out the positive cable with your wrench.
The Chevrolet Lumina fuel pump is powered by the electrical system. The fuel pump has a ground wire and a positive wire. The positive wire goes to the fuel pump relay switch.
The negative terminal is to chassis ground. This is supported by my personal experience, along with the original wiring diagram. The easiest way to assure yourself (assuming that you don't have a voltmeter) is to follow the wire from the positive terminal straight to the starter.
The 1990 Chevrolet Corvette IAT sensor does have two wires. The sensor has a ground wire and a positive wire.
