On the 2001 SL1 it is located on the left-hand (passenger) side of the cylinder head. Two small wires plug into it. Note: Be sure to wrap the threads of the new cooling send unit with Teflon tape before uninstalling the old unit and installing the new unit. If your fast enough, you will loose very little coolant.
Typically it is located on the DRIVERS side of the block, left side as you you sit in the car, nearest the coolant return line. My 2000 is this way.

The 2002 Saturn IAT sensor can be found on the top of the engine. The IAT sensor will be near the injector fuel pump.

The guage on the dash uses the ONE wire sensor... This is located in the block near the drivers side. Eric First check to see if you have coolant in the radiator. If there is no coolant you will not get any reading from the temperature sensor. If there is coolant then change the temperature sensor.
Follow the radiator hose to the block on the drivers side. It will be clamped to a hose connection where the t-stat is. Right next to that connection on the right is the PCM coolant temp sensor.

The 1997 Saturn knock?æsensor is located on the back of the engine. The knock sensor can be removed by removing the wiring harness and the retaining bolts.
Trouble code P0340 means:Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction
The knock sensor is located on the backside of the engine to the left of the oil filter, it is round with a 1 wire plug on it and a round base. I do not know the torque spec, but when I replaced mine I made it tight enough not to back out on its own.
