It is a safety switch Ford has used forever. If the vehicle is involved in an accident, the switch is supposed to trigger not letting any fuel flow to the engine. It can be reset by just pushing like a cicuit breaker.

ford originally did not produce the 1994 ford mondeo with fuel cut off switch. it was later improved in 2005 on the dashboard, after numerous deaths of drivers who died in fuel related fires. unlucky mate :/
