The resister for the 2001 prism blower motor drops voltage to the blower motor. This is how the blower motor runs at a lower speed.
Defective Blower Motor Resistor Pack.
The resistor module is located at the bottom of the blower unit which is behind the glove box. Follow the wires from below, it connects to a plug, the plug has two hex-head screws. It might be easier to take off the glove box for easy access. You would have to work on your back in a really tight dark spot.
It can be the resistor pack on the evaporator case.
Your question needs clarification - are you asking about the heater blower fan or the motor cooling fan? The heater blower may have a series resistor that is used for running the fan at slow spped. The resistor may be inside the box that holds the heater blower. It could be an open coil of wire that looks like a spring. The motor cooling fan usually runs at one speed, thus there is no series resistor. Are you instead asking about the resistance of either fan motor. You might find that listed in a repair manual. Try your public library.
It has a bad "Blower Motor Resistor" The fan switch itself is fine.
probly the blower motor
replace the blower fan resistor located under the dash behind the glove box
Should be located at the passenger side firewall Some are accessed under the hood others behind the glove box area Remove the wiring harness Remove the air intake hose Remove 3-4 small bolts Remove blower motor
Remove the glove compartment. Its behind it just to the left of the Blower. Disconnect the connector with four wires on the bottom. Remove two hex head screws, also from the bottom. I used a 7/32 socket to remove them. Remove resister. The resister looks like a small circuit board with printed circuit traces on it. Install new resister in reverse order.
Yes it should have one located on the backside of the motor, under the intake.
The Blower Resistor is probably bad. If the resistor draws too much current it burns out and the fan will only work on high speed since on high speed the resistor is bypassed completely. On my 2002 prism this part is located below the glove box. It is usually white with 4 wires and held in by two screws. It will be obvious when removed if it burned out - it will be chared and the traces broken. THe Haynes repair manual (at any parts store) shows it in figure 16.4. Should be a $20 to $30(dealer) part. Here are clear and simple instructions.1. Under your glove compartment, you will see a group of wires that are connected into a small, in my case yellow, irregular shaped piece of plastic; this is your blower motor resistor.2. If you have a ratchet set, this is a 5 min job... if not, I feel sorry for you because you are going to have a hard time taking out the two screws. If you don't have a set, I suggest asking a neighbor to borrow one which will save you a great deal of time.3. First unplug the wires from the resistor by gently lifting up on the plastic tab that connects them into the resistor.4. Unscrew the resistors two screws and it should slide right out. You will see that the plastic card is charred and peeling if it is bad.5. Pop your new resistor back in the slot, screw it in and snap the wires back in... it's just that easy!!!
