If you are asking about rear axle gears, no. The XJ has a corporate axle and the ZJ has a Dana axle.
The front axle did not have limited slip from the factory.
The 1996 ( most other model years ) Jeep Cherokee has either the DANA 35 rear axle or the Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. ABS brakes are optional with the Dana 35 . The Chrysler 8.25 never had ABS. The front axle is the DANA 30.
It keeps the front axle in the correct left to right alignment.
I am pretty sure it has Dana 30's front and rear.
They are on the inside, next to the differental bearings. The entire axle has to be dissassembled to replace them.
The starter is on the driver side of the engine, above the front axle assembly.
You have to remove the brakes, rotors, wheel hubs, axle shafts, diff cover, and differential carrier, seals are on the inside of the axle tubes.
