The "open door sensor" is built into each door latch assembly. Typically it's a micro switch that is triggered by the latch opening and closing. This tells the central computer if a door is open. The alarm system uses this info too.
The assembly is bolted directly inside the frame of the door and is what connects with the striker which is bolted to the vehicle body.

The door sensors are inside the door locks. If your door sensor are sticking causing the interior light to stay on. Spray some WD-40 on all the door jams including the tailgate.

The sensors are in the door itself. It seems to be very normal for these sensors to break. I just take out all the light bulbs, therefor I never have a dead battery. But, check with Ford for the part, and now you will have to figure out which door is the problem.
