your steering column is locked up. try turning the steering wheel left and right as you turn the key. but try turning the wheel with a lil umph!
That's one possibility, some others are, the car is not all the way in park or the pin for the lock release in the lock tumbler is stuck. Simple fix - get a heavy duty paper clip, straighten it out. Now carefully feel both top and bottom pins from front to back and back to front of the key slot. One of the pins is stuck. Just passing over them can unstick them. All the pins should move freely, one will even set off the buzzer for key in the ignition as you pass over it. After a few minutes of trying this, ignition should be unlocked. In my case, I felt it jump back into place. This was after leaving the truck (1997 Ford Expedition) in a shopping center lot over night. I was minutes away from calling a tow truck.
This is worth trying and can save you big $$$.
Turn the wheel and then try to start it with the key.
Does it turn over? Does it turn over?
You must turn the wheel back and forth while turning the key. This will unlock the key and allow it to turn.
check the microchip in the key if its missing or bad the truck wont start
Its a 94 Probe and my son stuck the key in tonight and the car wont turn on
turn the key to the on position then pump the accelarator 3 times then turn the key off then start ur truck
I've had to resolve this issue by turning the steering wheel and playing with the key. You can try to start the truck and then quickly turn it off to get the key to come out as well. My problem ended up being a shift solenoid that was sticking and telling the truck that it was still in gear.
key wont turn so i can start 1996 aero star ford fan
