∙ 14y agodepends on which part you need changed, if it is just the switch then you just turn the key to the on position and puch the guide pin underneath in till it slides out...if the shaft is broken then here is what i did.. first removed the heavy tilt spring. 1.remove the snap ring and upper bearing retainers from the shaft under the dash by the floorboard. 2.remove the 2 t30 torc bolts from the side of the housing. 3. use the tilt lever to release the tilt arms from the housing. the arms stay on the lower housing while the pivot pin and housing come off as an assembly. should pull apart far enough for you to replace the old rask gear inside. if the pin is missing try to find it because you dont want it loose in the gear slot.

changing the ignition switchfirst you have to take the steering wheel off.then you have to to have a tool called a steering wheel lock plate remocer/installer to remove the plate under the wheel .then you need to remove the turn signal switch (there is four screws holding it in , remember how you take it off )after that you have a little torx screw that you remove so you can slide the ignition out of the column .use the same directions in reverse to put the system back together with the new ignition switch
You will need to remove your steering wheel and remove all internals. There is a 10mm bolt that holds the ignition in place. When you remove that it will slide right out.
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove steering column covers Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch Remove the screw retaining the switch to the steering column

Remove the airbag and steering wheel, remove the torx screws from the steering housing and remove the housing, remove the screws from the signal and wiper switch, and remove the screws above the ignition switch and remove the switch. Replace the switch and replace everything in reverse.Ê
it should be under your steering wheel you might have to remove cover under steering wheel to find it
you may want to try this: - remove the center cover (horn switch)(im not so familiar the names of the parts) of your steering wheel by removing the screws underneath. - remove the steering wheel. You may use your cross tire wrench to remove the nut that holds the steering wheel. pull-off the steering wheel. - unscrew the plastic covers of the steering rod/tube. - disconnect the snap-in connection of the electrical wirings of the ignition switch - unscrew the holder (metal belt) of the ignition barrel. - an ordinary locksmith can fix your ignition switch.
rip it out or call a locksmith it happened with my 94 tbird
