on dash buttons by speedo use them to scroll to desired action and one is to shut off running boards but if it is ruunning battery down you may need to unplug them until the motors can be replaced

I have been involved with stretching both a 1998 and a 2000 into limousines. I even have fiberglass molds for the stretched body side moldings. Short Answer: get 1998s if you're just replacing damaged running boards. If you're trying to "sexy" up your 'gator, look at 2005-up motorized ones. They can be adapted to your 1998.
