For example, the human sacrifices of the Aztec and other central American civilizations would have been considered moral, and even of the highest religious virtue. Some laws and customs of foreign cultures may be shocking to us, but are moral from the perspective of those who adhere to them. So morality can be based on a socially subjective criteria. "Our forefathers have done this since the beginning of time. They were wise. We have survived. We will continue." Ethics is an attempt to arrive at objective, universal principles of behavior. So, in a sense, Ethicist would be an antonym for moralist.
