This is a difficult question to answer, it depends on the year of the car, the model and the engine size. The vast majority of 78 TA's came with the 6.6L V-8 400cubic inch engine. This came with 180hp. I on the other hand have a 78 trans am, with the 6.6L, 400cubic inch, engine... big difference right? well there is acutally, mine has 220Hp, the biggest amount offered my GM in TA's at that time. One of the easiest but not full proof ways to see if your car is 180 or 220 is to see if you have air conditioning. The majority of 78's with air had 220hp, and most others came with 180 and no air. But like I said this is not fool-proof, you will have to check your vin number and engine number to see exactly. Easiest way I have found is to look at hitmans78 website, a quick Google search should come up with the link.
what motor is in it?
360 hp.
348
185 hp
250
155 hp
advertised horsepower is...........165HP @ 3800 RPMs.
Around 280 net hp
350s weren't in Trans Ams in 2001, but the 5.7 LS1 had 310 hp that year.
It came in two horsepower ratings. A 180 HP and a 220 HP. The difference was a slightly higher compression head.
It depends on what type of fuel injection it is. If it's Tuned Port Injection (which it should be for a Trans Am), then it's 205 HP.
It was 175. 165 for the 5.7 350.
