∙ 16y agodo you mean the aluminum bracket holding the alternator broke at the bolt holes? do you know that there should be a steel bracket BEHIND the alternator also? when engine usually replaced, sometimes this steel bracket is not replaced and instead a shorter bolt is used to fasten alternator (3 bolts) to aluminum bracket. there should be a longer bolt which goes from the front of the alternator on the left side, thru the alternator and thru that steel bracket and into part of engine?? this part not clearly understood as explained to me by mechanic husband. he had the same problem and corrected when bracket kit purchased from local Chevy dealer; about $197 in Hawaii. hope this bit helps...
Check that the alternator and the power steering don't work of the same belt.
Having a piece break off your alternator bracket shouldn't have any impact on your timing chain unless the piece somehow hit it/got stuck, and that seems highly unlikely.
A RENCH................GENIOUS!! The broken screw will have to be replaced. A loose alternator belt will not recharge the battery - might also cause the engine to overheat if it is the same belt that drives the radiator fan and water pump. If the screw is broken inside the alternator, you can reverse-drill it out with an EZOut or you can just drill it out and replace with a bolt and nut. Other solution would be to buy another alternator. I don't know of any way you can tighten it temporarily except for maybe using a wooden wedge between the alternator and the alternator bracket or by using a piece of wire to hold it as far back as you can on the bracket. But these are emergency and temporary techniques - not a solution.
The choke light came on in my 1984 Celebrity when the alternator belt broke thus not charging the battery. Replacing the belt caused the choke light to go out. Since then I have noticed that whenever the alternator is not putting out enough voltage the choke light comes on.
Its broke
Take it to any good welding shop and have it repaired. Should be relatively inexpensive.
only 2 bolts holding pump is likely to allow pump to move, and cause bearings to wear,or belts to to wear and break, [ADDED] Whether the steering pump still works, a fault like that, affecting both the steering and the electrical systems, needs immediate attention.
broke part of key has engaged steering lock. sounds crazy put i have superglued other end of key and was able to remove broke part. if not see locksmith
replace the steering column.
The alternator only needs to be replaced when it fails. Its not a part that needs to be changed during routine maintenance. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
EVO sensor. Also known as steering speed sensor. Bad power steering pump, hose broke.
