Check the Vehicle Emission Control Information ( VECI ) decal located in the
front of the engine compartment ( it will show the type of spark plugs to use
and the spark plug gap )
Three on each side of the motor. Follow the spark wires.
The ( 2 ) engine , cylinder heads , are on each side of your V6 engine where the spark plugs are - just look for where the spark plug wires connect to the spark plugs
Obviously- the spark plugs were not the issue :)
The spark plug gap for a 1994 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 L OHV motor is .052 to .056 range - Chilton repair manual shows .054

Make sure you are using Ford OEM (Motorcraft is not always OEM) Spark Plugs that are designed for you explorer.
