Ford Explorers utilize an oblong speaker 5x7 or 6x8.
According to Crutchfield's site it is 6x8 for both front and back doors. And fyi - there are a couple great videos on YouTube on how to take the doors apart to replace said speakers.
I used 6x8 in my Explorer XLT. Pioneer makes a model 6870R that fits perfectly. 5X7
most ford explorers have 5x7 and you might fit an 8 in the door.
Try to use Toyota speaker adapter plugs so you don't need to cut wires and mess the electric system up. You can get them from Ebay or Amazon
