The "WS.6 Package" started in 1978 and slowly faded away. I don't know too much about the older models, but the WS.6 Package came back in 1996-2002. It added Ram Air, 17" rims with 275 wide tires, and a more aggressive suspension setup. The 96-97 WS.6 equipped vehicles had 305hp vs the regular 285hp. For 98-00 WS.6 equipped vehicles, 320hp vs 305hp for the regular models. For 01-02 WS.6 equipped vehicles, they had 325hp compared to 310hp for the regular models. Also, the 98-02 LS1 V8 models were under-rated by GM, they were advertised as having 305-325hp, but it's more closer to 350hp. The WS.6 package doesn't necessarily mean that the car is faster than a regular V8 model, as all the V8 equipped vehicles dyno the same numbers. It is more of a suspension/appearance package than anything.
the ws6 ram air performance package became available in April 1996 on the formula and trans am .
The WS6 package is simply a suspension package. Also includes a "ram air" hood, and high rise hatch.
339 Convertible WS6 Trans Ams were made in 1998. All WS6's have ram air.
Badging and appearance items mainly but, the ws6 handling and performance package was also only available as a TransAm.
A 1997 Pontiac Firebird WS6 has the LT1 350 V8 inside. With the WS6 package, it was rated at 305HP. Without the WS6 package, it was rated at 285HP.
There are many places one can list a Trans AM WS6 for sale. Some places one can sell a Trans AM WS6 include eBay, Craig's List, Camaro Zone, and Auto Trader.
Not in the literal sense, but you could configure a base Trans Am with the same features and options as a WS6 model if you were so inclined.
The letters dont have an exact meaning, its just a performance package offered for the Trans Am. It just includes different suspension, aluminum wheels, possibly a different steering box ratio. But it mainly stands for a different, more tuned suspension.
305
I own 1 2002 and 1 2001 trans am ws6, both have a 3.42 rear end ratio, that was the standard gear for the ws6 from the factory. The collector edition ws6 had a option for a slightly lower gear.
3.42
There were 30,690 Firebirds produced in 2002 of that number 14,608, almost half, were Trans AM WS6. Although the total production numbers were low because half were WS6 that makes them the least collectible of the bunch.
