This color code is approximately correct to both my 1999's

(sport and 4door) with standard AMFMTAPE Radios. Both Explorers were auction

cars, same year, same 4.0L SOHC VIN E

The speakers are actually an OEM special size 5.5x7.5". 6x9s wont fit bolt holes.

This list is also approx right for Sport but nearly right for 4door 1999;

There is a very very weak drawing of rear of Tape Standard radio 1999 at

http://www.carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Ford1.htm

but the connector location and pinouts are correct.

Here is a picture of the premium radio;

http://media.Photobucket.com/image/1999%20ford%20explorer%20wire%20harness%20diagrams/spabula/stereo%20install/PICT0249.jpg

Also at this page

http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Ford-Wiring.pdf

find a connector on page2 which is the exact same layout as Ford Explorer 1999 radio except colors are slightly different but layout/pinout is same, Light Green is +12Vdc power feed, Yellow/Black is switched ACC power...

The correct 1999 Radio harness color code for another wiki-answer on this SAME site is found here;
