If you are asking about rear axle gears, no. The XJ has a corporate axle and the ZJ has a Dana axle.
It will bolt up, but the manifolds, flywheel, wiring are different. Also the 1997 head does not have a hole in the rear for the temperature gauge sensor.
Front axle is a Dana 30, rear axle is a Dana 35. There are a few Jeeps that have Dana 44's front and rear but this was a rare option.
