With the 4.6L and 5.4L Triton V8s, there is a spark plug problem. The spark plugs break off in the head and can cause damage to the head, which can cost THOUSANDS to repair. So, get your spark plugs changed at about 60,000 to 75,000 miles before they blow and cost you some moolah! Other than that, the Triton V8s are great engines. The 4.6L Triton V8 made Ward's Top 10 Best Engines almost every year since it has came out, so it is a very reliable engine. I personally had one. The engine power is not great but boy are they reliable! Never had one problem. I changed the oil every 3,500 miles and replaced my spark plugs every 60,000 miles. The truck lasted me for 279,000 miles before I started having any problems. Then I traded off and got my new Super Duty 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel. My brother has a 2002 F-150 regular cab, short bed with the 4.2L V6 and he has had it for 8.5 years and about 145,000 miles. Never one single problem. The only money he has had to put in the truck was a u-joint that went out at around 120,000 miles.
