Hello, The way I have always done it is to go from the positive of the good battery to the positive on the dead one. Then go from the negative of the good battery to a good ground on the dead car. I look for one of the brackets they use to lower the engine into the engine bay or any sturdy bracket where the cable clamp won't get in the way when the engine starts. They say its better to do it like that because it usually throws a spark when that last clamp is connected , and you don't want to hook that right to the negative terminal. Acid filled car batteries emit hydrogen gas that can explode if it catches the spark. I hope this was helpful
