These two designations aren't really related. The LS1 is an engine designation. A pretty good one too. It will be a fuel injected 350. The WS6 is a designation for the Trans Am that was started in 1978. It included quick ratio steering, larger anti-sway bars, better springs and shocks, etc. In some cases through the years it may have included a higher performance engine. I've not really kept up with the newer ones. I would think the LS1 equipped car would also have the WS6 suspension....but you'd need the build sheet to know for sure.
310 for the LS1, 325 for the Ram Air (WS6) models.
The base LS1 had 305 hp, Ram Air (WS6) models had 320.
I have one. Black, 6spd, leather, T-tops. Here is a link for production info. 98' had no Firehawk option, but SLP did conversions with the Firehawk performance options.
Advertised: 1998 Trans Am = 305HP 1998 Trans Am WS6 = 325HP The truth is any f-body LS1 should be rated at 345HP. GM under-rated that motor.
The LS1 was introduced in the Corvette in 1997, and made its way into the Trans Am and Camaro in 1998. The Camaro Z28 and Trans am were advertised at 305 hp and the SS and WS6 at 320. Ratings stayed the same until 2001. The 01-02 SS and WS6 models were rated at 325 thanks to an LS6 intake manifold borrowed from the Vette. However a slightly smaller cam was used to keep power at the same level. The fact is an ls1 is an ls1 reguardless of year or model. The SS and WS6 cars will NOT dyno higher than a Z28 or ls1 formula. All 98-02 LS1 cars dyno 280-300 with the A4, and 300-320 with the m6. Forget about the GM ratings. All LS1 cars are good for 350-360BHP. GM underrated these motors in order to keep sales up on the "king of the hill" Corvette.
It's advertised as 325hp, but closer to 345hp. GM under-rated the LS1 in f-bodies to prevent Corvette sales from declining..
in 1998 gm started putting the LS1 engine in the trans ams and z28, firehawk, ss. yes it will fit. it is the same engine.
WS6 is an RPO code. It's simply an option that, depending on years, includes better suspension, quicker steering, engine and tranny mods, etc. The WS6 started in 1978.
Bill Firehawk went by Billy, The Fabulous Firehawk, Hawk, Hawkeye, and The Black Sultant.
Visually they are virtually identical, but the LS1 in 2002 had 310 hp vs 305 in 2000, and in 2002 you couldn't get the Ram Air WS6 package.
Bill Firehawk's birth name is William J. Hawkins.
Bill Firehawk was born on January 13, 1966, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
