In automobile terms it is a name attached to the Ford Model T (colloquially known as the Tin Lizzie and Flivver). It was an automobile produced by Ford Motor Company from 1908 through 1927. The Model T set 1908 as the historic year that the automobile came into popular usage. It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, the car that "put America on wheels".

The name of the man speaks for itself: Ford. He built automobiles, the first being the Model T in 1908. He also started the automotive industry's first assembly line. Actually the first car he built was the Quadricycle in 1898, 1900, 1901. He built only 3 of these. The Model T is the car that Ford built that was affordable to the average American.
Ford designated his prototypes by letter. The model T was the twentieth model in his development series.Related Information:The just as famous, but later Model A, was the first of a new series of development. The Model T was first built in 1908 although it was sold as a 1909 model. Henry Ford gave it an alphabetic designation instead of a name. Ford and his engineers used the first 19 letters of the alphabet to designate their automobiles, although some of the cars were experimental and never reached the public. The most successful of the early production cars was the Model N -- a small, light, four-cylinder machine which went on the market at $500. A $2,500 six-cylinder luxury car, the Model K, sold poorly. The Model A letter code was later reused on the successor to the Model T.
General Motors was formed in 1908 with the Buick Model F as it's first model.

no.
Ford started with the model A and, through a series of prototypes and actual vehicles, he arrived at the Model T which quickly caught on in the market. The model T replaced the model N as the most popular Ford vehicle. Subsequently, Ford released the Model A. It was not named the Model U because Plymouth had released their first vehicle which was already named the Model U. Therefore, Ford started back at A.
