Inside the cab. Passenger side. Inspect the heater ducts Look for five wires going to the resistor. Should be two screws holding it in.

Crawl under the truck and take a look.
open hood-look at firewall just above the valve cover on pass side. Resistor will be about 3 in long by 2 in with wires going to it.
Go to auto zone .com,and add your year model .
1997 was the first year for that body style 1996 was the last year of the first generation Dakota.
Look behind master cylinder, it will be white.
The Dodge 3.9L has a timing chain.
Just replaced one On a 93 Dakota & yours should be in same place. Open hood & look at firewall on pass side above valve cover. Square metal plate about 4 in by 2 in with 2 screws & a wire connecter.
Could be a bad blower motor, or, look to the blower motor resistor mounted on the engine firewall on the passenger side near the top of the firewall inside the engine compartment. It will have five wires going to it. It is likely either burnt out, or the wires have shorted at or near the resistor.
