Ping under acceleration or under load.
what causes my corola dx wagon with a 5e engine to ping
Timing to far advanced, over heating, octane to low. Need to know year, make and engine to help you with more possibilities.
If the knock sensor failed the CEL (Check Engine Light) would be illuminated and the engine may "ping" or "spark knock" under load. Serious "spark knock" can damage the engine if allowed to continue.
You can drive the car but if the engine should ping (knock) under load, the knock sensor won't be able to tell the computer to retard the timing. Excessive pinging can damage internal engine parts.
Low octane fuel, timing to far advanced, overheating.
If it doesn't "Ping" excessively under load should be OK
Check the timing or you may have to use a higher octane fuel
If it is intermittent it could be your not putting the right octane gasoline in the engine. Normally this will make it ping under load. If it has a clatter from the top of the engine all of the time you probably need to adjust your lifters. This is normally not a problem for today's lifters. Also if the noise is from the bottom of the engine you probably have worn bearings. Hope this helps.
Bad fuel, worn spark plugs or wires, dirty mass airflow sensor. Incorrect air/fuel ration, o2 sensor, knock sensor.
i would start with 10 degrees before TDC and test drive to make sure there is no ping when under load
accelerator ping is caused by to low aoctane fuel you are using this can be easliy corrected by buying higher octane,or by having a "good: mechanic ,tune your engine to the octane rating you are using
