Usually the car won't start on the first try, but will fire right up on the second attempt at cranking it over. This is a fuel pressure problem, and the solution is a new fuel pump, which has the filter, regulator, fuel level float, and pump all in one unit. Go with an OEM pump ($300-400) and you'll pay around that same amount for installation, and the non-oem pumps don't usually last as long. So spending the extra couple hundred for the good pump keeps you from buying another cheap one next year, plus another $3-400 for labor. A mechanic can check your fuel pressure to make the final diagnosis.
