Unless you have a manual valve body (i.e. typically a race only application) the tranny will shift to a higher gear ratio when it senses that a shift is necessary. This is the same reason that you may be able to manually shift from second to third with the shifter but the tranny might stay in second until it senses that it needs to shift. Your auto tranny is governed by pressure. There is main line pressure which is what the pump puts out and is used to apply clutches or bands. It is also converted to throttling pressure and governor pressure. Throttling pressure and gov. pressure oppose ea. other. The kick down linkage controls a valve which allows fluid pressure to act upon a plunger. The gov. which is a spring loaded flywheel with weights controls a valve that allows fluid pressure to act upon the other side of plunger that throttling pressure is acting upon. Under the right conditions one may oppose the other. If your gear selector is in first and you drive the car at a high speed (for the gear you are in) eventually gov. pressure will overcome throttle pressure and your tranny will shift. The placement of the shifter is just "telling" the tranny that 1st gear is your preference by directing fluid pressure to the first gear clutch pack to which there is a bypass that will direct the fluid pressure to the second gear pack when a shift is necessary. If you feel that the tranny is up shifting too early (i.e. at a lower engine speed with a high load) then you may need to have the tranny looked at for repair.

What is the Shift pattern for kawasaki ninja?

Motorcycles have a ratchet shifter. When you push the shifter down or up, the shifter returns to the middle position. First gear is selected by pushing the shifter down once from neutral. All other gear selections are by pulling the shifter up. If I remember correctly the Ninja has five gears. That would mean once down for first, once up for second, up again for third and so on. To come down through the gears is the reverse, push down on the shifter to go from fifth to fourth, once more down for third, an so on. Neutral is in between first and second. With the bike in first gear, lift the shifter gently, watching the green neutral light. When the light comes on, stop lifting the shifter. Hope this helps. Don

How do you work a clutch on a sreet bike.?

Shifting is all done on the left side of the bike. Your left hand works the clutch. Your left foot works the shifter. The shifter is geared up to a slotted barrel. When you push down it shifts down one gear at a time. And likewise when you lift up on the shifter with your foot it shifts up one gear. Most bikes have five gears. A few really fun bikes have six. Neutral is half way between first and second gear. To start out from neutral, pull in the clutch lever with your left hand. Push down on the shifter with your left foot. Now slowly let out the clutch till the bike begins to move. Now slow down your release and give a little gas. Once your movement becomes stable you can release the clutch the rest of the way out. To shift into second, you pull the clutch in, pull up on the shifter with your left foot, and let the clutch out with your left hand again. Next you push your right fore arm under the throttle while gently gripping it with your right hand and expose your teeth and open your eyes wide.

My 97 Taurus gear shifter will move but not shift into any gear after starting the car?

There could be two reasons for this. The first is the transmission is completely out and the second is the linkage in the transmission is broken.

What will happen if the red and blue shifts of planets in the world disappeared?

First of all, we don't see blue shifts, just red shifts, meaning an expanding, not contracting universe. Second of all, these red shifts come from stars in the universe, not planets in the world. What would happen if the red shifts disappeared? Well, there'd be a whole bunch of excited scientists, that's for sure, because that would mean that the universe will have gotten as big as it's going to get and is now going to start collapsing back onto itself.
