Won't shut off or you just can't remove the key....there is a small hole located under the steering wheel, if you push in a small screw driver or possibly a pen or pencil in this hole and this will manually releases the key. there is a solenoid that is suppose to actual the key release when you shut off the car. Problem could be selenoid is not working or... as in my case the wiring harness for this, is located inside the shifter console was broken. This wiring pigtail powers this and other safety features. Poor design by GM as the wires bend back and forth with the shifter... so over time the wires eventually brake off of the connector. A new pigtail is about $50 Wow so I suggest carry around the pencil or pen for when this happens.
try replacing your battery maybe turn the key?
take your key to a hardware store and ask them to copy it. it wont cost much. if you lost the key completely, you are skrewed
go to http://www.programyourremote.com/ It works perfect. When you remove and reinsert the key per the instructions, remove it and swing it about 2 feet away from the ignition so the sensor can't detect the passcode in the key.
Pry off the small rubber stopper under the steering column. Insert screwdriver or pen far enough to move the lever inside, key should turn and be able to be pulled out.
You need to replace the ignition switch. Too much play in it.
Change the battery
Defective ignition switch.
Does it have a remote starter? Defective ignition switch?
My pontiac grand prix won't allow me to turn the key all the way to the off position car is shut off but key won't come out
There are noises and lights that tell a driver there is something wrong with a car. The chiming when the door is shut and the key is removed, usually indicates that a light may be on.
I wish I knew a better answer. My Aztek's lights can be turned off by turning the key to off position and then manually rotating the light button on the top left one click clockwise and then back all the way to the left. If I do this before I turn the key off, the damn thing will turn the lights back on again. Wish I had a better answer. It is clear that the Aztek designers thought God knew best when to turn its lights off and on.
There could be many reasons why your Sears riding lawn mower won' shut off. The key could be jammed for example.
