The factory u-joints on an expedition are non greaseable.....I had to replace mine with universal greaseable u-joints.
The driveshaft is removed to replace the clutch by unbolting the u-joints and retaining caps on each end of the drive shaft. The shaft can then be collapsed slightly to allow for easier removal.
you need to replace the cam shaft positioning sensor
its either twisted or bent from for wheeling or need to replace u joints
Model Year, 2WD or AWD, And if it is AWD or a 2WD(Front Left-Half shaft) is it your inner or outer? If it is you will need to replace the half-shaft as the inner cv cannot be disassembled.
No. There are 2 U joints, 1 front and 1rear. If they are the factory U joints they are sealed with a plastic meaning no clips on driveshaft side. If you are not of high mechanical ability I would take it and have it done.
The shaft itself rarely needs to be replaced, but it is often cheaper to replace than repair. The only thing that `requires`replacement of the shaft is if the shaft itself is bent or damaged. Joints, slip yokes and such can be changed.
U-joints. Get a hammer and a punch. Replace both ends of the drive shaft.
Remove the 4 nuts that hold down the U-Joints to the differential. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the center drive shaft carrier bearing to the frame. Put a pan or some kind of container under the tail of the transmission to catch any of the oil that drips. Then pull the drive shaft out of the transmission. If you decide to replace the u-joints, I strongly recommend that you take the drive shaft to a reputable u-joint specialist and have all 3 u-joints replaced and the carrier bearing all replaced and have the drive shaft balanced. Then put it all back together in reverse order. When removing the u-joints, make sure the transmission is in neutral and the parking brake is set and/or the wheels are blocked.
They are labor intensive if you just replace the joints. What I do is replace the shaft which in the long run is cheaper. Two options: buy a good used one at a salvage yard ( approximate $75.00) or a rebuilt unit ($125.00 exchanged. )Check prices and warranties. Good luck.
Maybe it is one of the other cv-joints. Each half shaft has two cv-joints. Better off replacing the complete halfshaft with a rebuilt unit than to replace the one cv-joint only.
sounds like you need to replace the U-Joints in the drive shaft
