Could be a bad head gasket and/or a cracked head.
Depends on if the gasket is the only problem. Can be the head is cracked or warped. Get an estimate from a trusted shop.
The estimate to replace/repair the head gasket on a Rover 45 starts at 200 British pounds, plus VAT. As of October 2014, this is equal to $321.45 in US currency.

I am losing antifreeze in my 1996 Geo Metro 1L. Compression is 120/120/150. Would it be the head gasket or a cracked head to the exhaust? Thanks Al
Decent job -everything done which needs doing -about £430.
I would say the head gasket because it is extremely sensitive to overheating, which will happen if the rad. and hoses are never looked at.
