How is the headroom in a Karmann Ghia?

There is very little headroom in a Hardtop Ghia in the rear seat area, adequate for even a 6 footer in the front however much taller than that and you would have a problem. Convertibles do not have that problem but with a fairly short windshield, you would find that the headroom is limited at best for a tall person. The overall dimensions of the Karmann Ghia were established in the early 1950's and remained pretty much unchanged through the last year of production in 1974. Earlier seats actually have you sitting a bit lower than later ones anyway.

Karmann ghia front trunk?

Karmann Ghia Trunk? I am not sure what you are asking, but will try to answer what you might have asked. The VW Type 14 Karmann Ghia has a front trunk for luggage much like the VW Sedan (Bug) does. The Ghia has a pull handle on earlier models, and a small lever in later ones to open the front hood. Lindsey Lee PS from Altema: In addition to the front trunk, there is a rear luggage compartment behind the rear seat which is surprisingly large, and the rear seat flips down to become a carpeted luggage platform which extends under the rear window. As a bonus, there is a pair of hidden empty spaces under the rear seat (I'd recommend tool box liner to protect the metal floor).

Was there a stock vw karmann ghia ragtop?

Starting in year model 1958, Karmann Coachworks built a Ghia Convertible. There are a number of differences between the Ghia vert and the hardtop, specifically the rear seat is narrower, the body is reinforced below the doors inside the rocker panels, the windows are slightly different, heater vents are in different places in the rear etc. While there are a number of chop top ghias, they are not correct. Karmann never built a type I ragtop, with the metal roof cut out for a soft top center much like the early (up through '63) bug sunroof models. There are a number of Ghias which have been modified to install a ragtop, but none were done by the factory Lindsey Lee

Why isn't Karmann Ghia a subcategory under VW?

Like much of this site, the Volkswagen category is still grown and expanding to encompass all the relevant models. For now questions on Karmann Ghias should go on the general VW category, once a category is created they will be moved. The category has been created, please feel free to ask questions there. Older questions are being moved as they are located.

What size tires fit a stock 1968 Karmann Ghia?

The stock tires on a '86 Karmann Ghia would normally be a 155 - 15 tire however most people put on 165 size. I think that the size would be a 5.60 15 or 6.00 15, they are 15 inch rims, and either 4 or 4 1/2" wide, not sure exactly when they made that changeover, but does not matter on the tire size. I checked into tires in Houston TX, Discount tire stocked the 165-15 size. Stock tires in 1968 would most likely have been bias ply. You will have much greater tire life and a safer vehicle if you go with radials. Unless you are doing a total ground up restoration, radials will likely be cheaper, and are better more modern tires for street use. The last of the ACVW beetles made in Mexico this century used a 155/80-15, in theory this is just a hair smaller that the OEM 155r15. So far (spring 2010) you can still order this tire from better BFG vendors. This tire does fit in the nose, this tire does fit the stock narrow rims very well, this tire does allow for chains and turning with out rubbing.
